Hays is the county seat of Ellis County in western Kansas. The geologist in me appreciates the trouble that the builders went to to bring in such nice igneous and metamorphic rocks that make up the stairway and lobby. The large antenna atop the courthouse is for the Hays Police Department which occupies an adjacent building.
