Description

This photo shows two large river channel sandstone lenses (see snapshot 1) that occur in the thinly bedded sedimentary rocks of ancient Lake Uinta, in the Uinta Basin of Utah. The sandstone lenses formed when the shoreline retreated and rivers advanced over the lake sediments. The lake then returned and the river channels were buried by younger lake sediments.
