The former lead extraction site sits in the picturesque Yorkshire Dale National Park near Swaledale. The works were in operation throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and a major source of lead for the UK. The works finally closed around 1910 and all that remains are the ruins of the works with some decaying equipment. The surrounding moorland is now the habitat of Red Grouse and Sheep Farming.
