This is an image of some of the flatwoods at Jonathan Dickinson State Park located in Martin County, Florida. It has a rich variety of flora. Slash pines (pinus elliottii) abound, although a couple are being climbed by the nasty non-native Old World climbing fern (Lygodium microphyllum). Some of the small yellow flowers in the foreground are Florida tickseed (Coreopsis floridana) while others are flattop goldenrod (Euthamia caroliniana). Saw palmettos (Serenoa repens) provide a backdrop for a variety of grasses such as bushy bluestem (Andropogon virginicum), bluestem (Schizachyrium scopsrium), plume grass (Saccharum giganteum), and bottlebush three awn (Aristida stricta). For more information about grasses in this part of Florida visit the website: floridagrasses.org/index.htm
