The fourth gate of the Vauban fortress, Alba Iulia, Romania by Calin Suteu

(EN) Built in baroque fashion the fourth gate is close to the two cathedrals, on the west side of the citadel, towards the Roman’s Plateau, an ancient army practice ground. The construction is simple, with decorations only on the inner side of the gate; it housed the guards in the two lateral rooms. The passage is a semi-cylindrical tunnel, on the inner end it has a frontispiece with sculptures such as two Atlases, sculpted in the same manner of those found at the third gate, a simplified emblem of the House of Austria and various depictions of flags and war trophies bearing the marks of Carol the VIth.

(RO) Construită în stil baroc, ea se află în apropierea celor două catedrale, pe latura de vest a cetăţii, fiind una dintre porţile care asigurau ieşirea spre Platoul Romanilor, vechi teren de antrenament. Construcţia este simplă, cu decor doar pe faţada interioară, adăpostind corpul de gardă în cele două camere laterale. Pasajul de trecere are o boltă semicilindrică, pe partea decorată fiind susţinută de doi atlanţi, redaţi în aceeaşi manieră ca şi cei de la poarta a III-a; mai sunt prezente şi o stemă a Austriei simplificată, precum şi basoreliefuri reprezentând diferite trofee, fanioane şi steaguri cu însemnele lui Carol al VI-lea.
