The Custozza parc, Alba Iulia, Romania (March 01, 2011) by Calin Suteu

The trees in this parc, some as old as 130 years, found in the middle of the Vauban fortress of Alba Iulia will be razed to the ground in the following days as part of a city approved project with EU funding (!). They will be replaced by a completely paved square with parking spots, a fountain and the current monuments. There is an ongoing fight to preserve this beautiful oasis of silence with apeals still being made to green NGO's and local/national institutions, no proper action being taken to this day.
