The GenOn Energy coal power plant at center is a source of controversy, because its new smokestack is so loud and because of the pollution it puts out. It's ironic to locate a coal-fired power plant in the town where Rachel Carson lived!

In 2008 this plant "emitted 30,300 tons of sulfur dioxide, 4,100 tons of nitrogen oxides, more than 400 tons of airborne particulates", according to www.post-gazette.com/pg/10351/1111418-455.stm
