The Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge is fully operational and has been is use since 1911. It remains the largest of this type of bridge operating worldwide. The Bridge is a total of 851 feet (259.3 metres) in length and is effectively two almost independent structures joined at the centre of the River Tees.
