TimeScience is working with Alta Ski Area's Environmental Center to develop protocols for using gigapixel imagery to facilitate earlier detection and remediation of mountain pine bark beetle infestations in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah.
This image, taken from Baldy shoulder at the "door knob" gate above the tree jump cliffs. This shot gets about 70% of the trees on the Collin's side of Alta.
This version of the image was post processed in Photoshop. Contrast and brightness were increased to help identify bark beetle infested trees. The adjustments lower the image quality for the snow and background of the image but it makes the red in the beetle infested trees a lot more visible.
