Description

This beautiful art-glass mosiac depicting Our Lady of Guadalupe on a surfboard was put up illegally beneath a railway underpass in the surf-friendly town of Encinitas, CA in early May 2011. The artist is unknown. While violating all the rules of propriety, it's such a beautiful piece that it transcends the normal definition of 'defacement'. The local town council may move to take it down in the near future, so I decided to try to preserve it via high resolution photos. You can *really* zoom in on these photos, and see every tile in detail. Hope she isn't taken down - I'm certain that would be the end of her, the piece is so fragile. Note that one piece of glass is already broken... encinitas.patch.com/articles/our-lady-of-peace Will open in a new tab or window www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/apr/25/surfing-madonna-appears-encinitas Will open in a new tab or window/
