The Botanical Garden of Biology Institute is located at the heart of The National University of Mexico. This extraordinary place is full of life and forms, sounds and smells, textures and sensations that reveals the Mexican biodiversity, all over the cracks, rocks, wood and plants themselves are covered by life. The Botanical Garden came at the initiative of Dr. Faustino Miranda and Dr. Efren del Pozo (two outstanding researchers at the University) to create biological research site with controlled conditions and to preserve the diverse flora of Mexico and expose the most amazing and representative plants of Mexico. This section “La olla de las Crassulaceas (The pot of crassulacean ) maintains several species of the Crassulaceae family and many other surprises.
The beauty of the place is increased because was built over a lava outflow representative of the Pedregal de San Ángel Reserve. The unique ecosystem of the reserve is considered as one the most bio diverse places on the Mexican basin. Its origin dates 5,000 years BC when the Xitle volcano erupted and created a lava outflow on which the particular vegetation established. Now days, after the impressive urban development of Mexico El Pedregal de San Angel Reserve is one of the last natural reserves immerse in one of the biggest city of the World.
