I am curious about much that is Japanese and had a go a learning the language last year. My intrest was piqued by the sight of three girls in school uniform enjoying themselves with the typical English sea-side delights on offer. (They weren't eating winkles, but that's probably a good thing in the context of English/Japanese cultural ties. Mind you, better winkles that whale meat,)
One thing I was curious about was that they seemed too young not to have a chaperone of some sort. They were happily buying tattoos and crêpes without the attention of any sort of guardian that I could see.
Another was: why school uniform? Is it standard practice for the children of Japanese parents to go on holiday in their 'best clothes' i.e. their school uniform? Cmlbath's theory is that the girls were not Japanese at all, just Japanese-looking girls from the local comprehensive.
At one point they were sitting at the same table as me - how I wished I could remember even one word from attempt at learning Japanese ...
