This oasis is a frog haven. Hundreds of frogs blend in along the shoreline and hop into the pond in a great cascade when one walks along its shore. The water is quite low this time of year. The larger frogs eat the smaller ones and only a few will be left by seasons end. Turtles and whipsnakes eat all that they can. The redwing blackbirds are long gone, having done their nesting months ago. This pan was taken on September 7th.
Ground squirrels tunnel in the surrounding hills and are freqently vistited by coyotes when haums are not present or are very quite. Many small oaks dot the hillsides where we hid acorns. This place looks differnt every year now.
