This full 360 degree panorama was taken during the follow up fall visit to the Glacier Index monitoring site. Go full screen mode and get a sense of what it is like to stand on one of these big valley glaciers coming off of Denali.
Compare to previous panormas taken from the same location for seasonal changes.
This is part of an effort by the U.S. National Park Service to document glacier change in our glacierized national parks. This 360 degree view from the middle of the Traleika Glacier (~10 miles NE of Denali/Mt. McKinley). At these specific coordinates on the glacier, glaciological measurements are made twice a year to track long-term changes. A visit in the spring attempts to capture the maximum accumulation of winter snowfall at the site and another in the fall to measure how much snow and ice has melted over the summer. GPS measurements are made to track changes in surface elevation and movement of a metal stake tracks changes in glacier velocity as well as surface snow and ice melt. Measurements have been made here since 1991.
