This is a 325 Megapixel image made out of 53 individual photos. I captured the source images at the Seattle Ferry Terminal right at sunset. At this time of year the sun sets 180 degrees opposite of the orientation of the downtown street grid, so all of the horizontal light was hitting the vertical buildings square on. It really looked like this. This isn't an HDR and I didn't do a lot of color correction in photoshop -- if anything I desaturated the yellows because they were really off the hook.
I shot this handheld (didn't plan to shoot when I went downtown) with my Nikon D3 and battered 24-120 3.5-5.6 VR lens -- begging the question what the hell was I doing downtown with 2 cameras and 5 lenses if I wasn't planning on shooting -- but you know how that goes, right? Yeah you do. Nerd.
Exposure times varied between 1/1250 and 1/320; aperture was locked at 5.6 and ISO was 400. Ingested raw files into Lightroom, exported as tifs in AdobeRGB colorspace, stitched in Autopano Giga, rendered using ldr color blending as a 16 bit tiff, which was about 2 GB. Imported into Photoshop for sharpening/de-noise fun and dealing with artifacts. Final image: 34286 wide x 9542 high, about 325 megapixels, field of view 137 x 36 degrees.

That pix is really well done even as a handheld, as you stated. I've seen tripod shots that don't have the distance clarity you had. Well done, lets see more of your work.
