McDonald Creek Oxbow, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA by Lisa McKeon

This meandering section of Lower McDonald Creek is a local spot to see waterfowl, eagles, deer, elk, and occasionally bears. While the scene is wintery and the oxbow section of the creek is frozen over, there is unusually little snow for this time of year. During the process of capturing this photo, the ice was groaning and creaking in the single digit temperatures. I did not detect any life from the beaver lodge. In the background, Apgar Mountain appears stark after the Robert Fire of 2003 consumed much of the vegetation on this side the peak. A fire lookout sits atop Apgar Mountain and one of Glacier National Park's webcams broadcasts view of the North Fork and Lake McDonald from that high perch. www.nps.gov/glac/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm 
This location will be repeatedly shot throughout the seasons and as the years pass so that viewers can discover the progression of seasonal landscape change post fire.
