- Description

This was one of the stops for members of the Florida Native Plant Society who spent 8 days in the Exumas which is one of the island chains in the Bahamas. Members lived on board the Shedd Aquarium's 80-foot research vessel R/V Coral Reef II and visited 2 to 4 sites daily. This afforded us the opportunity to examine the unique geology, flora, and fauna up close and personal. As the sign states the iguanas are protected. These are Cyclura cychlura figginsi and are a critically endangered subspecies of Northern Bahamian Rock Iguana that is found on the Exumas. The wild population is less than 1300 animals.
