On or about June 23, 1925 about 38 million cubic meters of rocks and debris slid northward off of Sheep Mountain and into the valley of the Gros Ventre River, forming an impoundment that now holds back Lower Slide Lake. Almost two years later a portion of this landslide dam failed and the resulting flood wiped out the...

From close below the Tetons, this panorama offers a detailed look at the geology of the range front. The Teton Glacier is best seen from this angle and there are a couple of mafic dikes that cut the Archean igneous and metamorphic rocks that make up the bulk of the Teton Range. Oh yeah, a few tourists and cyclists in...

Nothing quite like a chair lift to get one to a good vantage point! And I got done shooting this one just in time, too - an approaching thunderstorm threatened to shut down the lift within a half an hour of the time I got off the mountain.

This view is North of but close to the Jackson Hole airport. An airplane would come in close to the top of the Grand Teton, but I never did have the camera in the right positing when this happened. Shot with Nikon D5000 and 300mm lens

It had been raining quite a bit this day, and you can see another storm coming from the top right. This Boat dock area is a popular site for park visitors. Mt. Moran is the large mountain in the center of the image. Shot with a Nikon D5000 and 200mm lens. Due to wind and water movement there are a number of sti...

My first Gigapan attempt! This was shot around 11am in the morning, just before a storm blew in.

The two days that I tried to shoot the Tetons at sunrise ended up being cloudy to partly cloudy. The light was better the day I shot this one than the day before (www.gigapan.org/gigapans/30797/), but not what I was hoping for. Nonetheless, I had time to kill while the sun got to work burning off the clouds, s...
