Early November found me about 70 miles east southeast of Kotzebue, standing on the new ice of the Selawik River. The Rainbow Bridge, almost abandoned for three seasons with an ice highway beneath it, was posing nicely for a panorama.

In Kotzebue we really enjoy the 4th of July. By now most of the snow is gone. The water is free of ice, and it's very refreshing if you decide to go for a brief swim.
