Shot at sunset from the roof of Griffith Observatory, overlooking Los Angeles. It was a clear day, but as soon as the sun went down, the marine layer rushed in, ruining the shot I had imagined. We'll try this one again when it warms up a bit and the sunset can really light up the LA basin.

This is the Great 36-inch Refractor at Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton. This telescope was completed in 1888 with a $700,000 donation by James Lick and was, at the time, the largest telescope in the world. James Lick is entombed at the base of the telescope. A fitting monument to him. The observatory has gracious...

View towards the intersection of College and Gustad Drives, Fort Hays State University. It took a bit of patience to capture this one because this is a surprisingly busy intersection at this time of day. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful spring evening, and it was worth shooting at full zoom because there are lots of...

Clifton Bridge spans the river Avon and connects the City of Bristol to Leigh Woods in Somerset. It was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed after his death in 1864. He won a competition to design a bridge here, but because the powers that be didn't believe that such a span could be built, he had to build ...

The Griffith Observatory is beautiful, but it is particularly striking at night. Recently renovated and expanded, it is a great place for visitors of all ages, and it has amazing views of downtown and the LA basin from its roof and terraces.
