Along Highway 12 - it was hard not to stop here with the sun hitting the outcrop at a nice angle. I may be wrong about this, but I think these outcrops are part of the Cretaceous Straight Cliffs formation (sandstones and shales), which has occasional organic rich layers - including coal.

Another view from the north rim of the Grand Canyon - this time from the patio at the Grand Canyon Lodge. The Inner Gorge is just visible behind the closer ridges - the oldest rocks in the Canyon are exposed in the gorge by the Colorado River.

One of series of Jurassic aged lake bed sediments outcropping along Route 9 in central Connecticut.
