Otherwise the boats would all end up resting on the mud at low tide twice each day. The SS Great Britain, built by Isambard Kingd...

A view of the central Piazza of the Ruby Princess while at sea off the coast of Florida on the way to the Bahamas. It is basically a shopping mall with restaurants, bars, clubs and casino within walking distance. Taken from Deck 6, in between the two glass elevators and across from the Purser's Desk. There were some...

It was a wise choice for such an enterprise because there was a remarkable abundance of whales in the waters around South Georgia. Harvesting was profitable with whales rendered into oil for foods, cosmetics, medicines and ch...

It took just over an hour to take all the pictures for this 180 degree panorama. I cut off the bottom row of pictures, there were too many people walking around so I had a large number of stray bodyparts in the full picture. Taken on 3/15/09, it was a cloudy day in Nassau, so there are bands of clouds that moved th...

The sloop Regina M and the whaling ship Charles W. Morgan at their docks in Mystic Connecticut. In November 2008, the Morgan was hauled ashore. If you visit the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport, you can watch the shipwrights as they restore the 18th Century wooden whaling ship.
