  1. Early November found me about 70 miles east southeast of Kotzebue, standing on the new ice of the Selawik River. The Rainbow Bridge, almost abandoned for three seasons with an ice highway beneath it, was posing nicely for a panorama.

  3. Kiana, a pretty little Alaskan village at the confluence of the Kobuk and Squirrel Rivers, was actually behind me, up a rather steep hill. This quiet panorama nicely shows the cold, vast emptiness of the newly frozen rivers that provide food, transportation and recreation to the folks in the village.
