This is the oldest living tree in Alberta. A short hike from the Bow summit on the Icefields Parkway, Peyto Lake was named after pioneer explorer Bill Peyto. I like the play of lush forest against the craggy cliffs. The mountains are full of such contrasts - hard/soft, wet/dry, hot/cold, and more - and maybe that is the source of their appeal.
