View towards the intersection of College and Gustad Drives, Fort Hays State University. It took a bit of patience to capture this one because this is a surprisingly busy intersection at this time of day. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful spring evening, and it was worth shooting at full zoom because there are lots of...

The Griffith Observatory is beautiful, but it is particularly striking at night. Recently renovated and expanded, it is a great place for visitors of all ages, and it has amazing views of downtown and the LA basin from its roof and terraces. Read all about it: www.griffithobservatory.org/obshist.html

There are paths all throughout Griffith Park, where the observatory is perched. I walked down the hill a couple hundred yards to get this profile of the building against the dusk sky.

Shot at sunset from the roof of Griffith Observatory, overlooking Los Angeles. It was a clear day, but as soon as the sun went down, the marine layer rushed in, ruining the shot I had imagined. We'll try this one again when it warms up a bit and the sunset can really light up the LA basin.

Near sunset, but was able to shoot low enough to only have a little glare (wind shake, from having the tripod at full extension, was more of an issue, for this stitcher at least.)

Taken shortly after sunrise on Mt Washington. Too bad this one came out a little blurry, it was my first one! For a complete trip report, go here: mitoc.mit.edu/gallery/washington_gigapan

This was taken from on top of the Cog Railway tracks on Mt Washington. Look at all the rime ice on that has accumulated on everything. The chains on the nearby building are actually for anchoring the roof down. For a complete trip report and additional pictures, go here: mitoc.mit.edu/gallery/washington_gigapan

This panorama was taken just after sunrise on a nice December day on Mt Washington, in New Hampshire. We were very lucky with calm winds and 5F air temp. Just 24 hrs earlier the windchill where this picture was taken was -57F. I'll let you figure out the temp and windspeed. For a complete trip report and additional pic...

This was taken near sunrise from the top of Mt Washington, in NH. The buildings are part of the Mt Washington Observatory. The gigapan mount behaved spectacularly in the 5 degree F conditions. I set up a Canon Power Shot on the mount, and the system happily took about 800 pictures over ONE HOUR and didn't even comp...
