This was hand shot, hand stitched-- didn't have the gigapan or tripod with me on vacation. You can barely see the very top of the head of an alligator at the top part of the pool at left, just below the log-like thing. The eye is prominent. Also elsewhere in the picture are egrets or herons (I forget which is which)...

Cormorant and Egret Rookery on Toledo Bend Lake. These social birds mix together here every Spring to have and raise their young. Occasionally one can spot a Great Blue Heron among them.

Upstream dam releases on the Salt River have required that Town Lake release some of its water, much to the delight of the local bird population. The Salt River downstream of the dam spends most of the year completely dry.
