At one time the legendary Kettle Valley Railway ran through the canyon. This is the entrance to the canyon at Othello where the original tunnels still exist. Part of the KVR line was used when the Coquihalla Highway was built over top of the old grades.

The huge expanse of Williston Lake, covering more than 410,000 acres is impounded by the 600 foot high Bennett Dam on the Peace River. Most of the lake is well beyond the view here as it stretches upstream more than100 miles into the Finlay Reach and the Parsnip Reach.
