Always a splendid sight as you reach the Bow Summit on the Icefields Parkway. The most favorable time when the sun's illumination reveals the textures of the mountain is in the early morning, before noon. This panorama was recorded before 9:00 AM at the end of June. Num Ti Jah Lodge can be seen on the right near t...

At this pull-out on the Icefields Parkway you get a fabulous view of the Sunwapta Canyon (below left), Mount Athabasca (left) Snow Dome, Mount Kitchener. On the slopes immediately facing the camera, one frequently sights mountain goats. There is a proposal by Brewster to build a very large observing platform that wou...

This past winter has been a very good year for snow in Western Canada with record or near-record falls. This shows the late April snows on Mount Athabasca in the Columbia Icefields. More is likely, in fact it gets snow in every month of the year.

This is a view from just above the parking lot. Notice the group of climbers on the glacier below Mount Athabasca. Compare the view a few minutes earlier that I took from in front of the pond gigapan.org/gigapans/55817/ More info on Mount Athabasca: www.peakfinder.com/peakfinder.asp?Peakname=Mount+A

The "high point" for many thousands of visitors to Banff and Jasper National Park. Little did I realize while I was recording this Gigapan, there were a group of 10 climbers on the glacier below Mount Athabasca...I spotted them on one or more of the frames that make up the image. gigapan.org/gigap...

One of my larger Gigapans, the photos were taken early in the morning after a heavy snowfall a few days earlier on the upper slopes. The mountain rises more than 1600 meters above the valley floor and is more than 10,741 feet high. Composed of many layers of shale, quartzite and limestone, it stands in solitary splend...
