The pond at Morgan Territory is an oasis of life. Red winged blackbirds are defining their territories and selecting nesting sites. Show of red, diving at each other, and ariel acrobatics atre ongoing. This was a place worth watching on this windy day.

This regional preserve connects with thousands of acres of wilderness and is within twenty miles of Oakland CA. The distant mountain in the center of the image is Mount Diablo. The view from Diablo gigapan.org/gigapans/50766/ shows this park on the right hand side of the frame.

Another afternoon at the pond in the early afternoon in mid July. A large turtle crossed the pond and a three foot Alameda whipsnake while I took this shot. The dragonflies were very busy and hardly seen at 1/800th.

The summer pond is a busy place and the dynamics of this scene largely eluded my capture. What I do like are the details of reflections.

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve has this nice pond with at least one turtle, an Alameda whip snake, many birds, and some valued shade. I would have been better off using a row shoot rather than columns now that I see the wind effects. The column shoot has the advantage that you can stop it at any time and still ...

Valley oaks are some of the largest in California, growing from sixty to sometimes more that a hundred feet tall. The large acorns were gathered and eaten by the Miwok and Volvon peoples who lived in these hills. Many of these trees were apparently planted around the village sites. Dying and dead valley oaks often ...

Snow fell for two straight days in Boulder, Colo., dumping almost three feet of snow in some places. Thought it would be a good time to take the gigapan out (covered in a plastic bag) to capture this snowy scene. Enjoy wandering around this photo. Two days later all the snow had melted, just in time for Halloween.
