A second attempt at taking a shot of the crater at Masaya -- although there are a lot of problems with this image (mostly with missing images) I still had to upload it because the good parts are really good! The problem with doing the gigapan basically boiled down to so many people asking me what I was doing that I wa...

Playa Hermosa is one of several beaches where Paso Pacifico is working to save sea turtles. Here, our guards patrol day and night, taking information on any turtles that arrive to lay their eggs. Sea turtles eggs are considered a delicacy; on unprotected beaches, eggs are often stolen to be sold on the black market. ...

To my knowledge, the first gigapan in a bat cave. (Considering how it came out, it might be the last one, too!) These are members of a colony of common vampire bats (Desmodus rotundus) in a small lava tube cave found on Nicaragua's Masaya Volcano. Entering into the cave and using a flash camera was somewhat disrupti...

The beach at San Juan del Sur, one of Nicaragua's popular tourist destinations and is located near several beaches where Paso Pacifico is working to save endangered sea turtles. This gigapan came out pretty well despite the strong winds that were shaking the camera the entire time (we had to hold the tripod down to ke...

Ostional is a small town located on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, just north of the border with Costa Rica. Paso Pacifico is working to conserve sea turtles, which arrive on beaches to the north and south to lay their eggs. The park guards working on this project are members of the Ostional community; every night t...

Paso Pacifico has several areas of native species reforestation along the southern shores of Lake Nicaragua, outside of the town of Cardenas. This shot was taken from Isla Vista, where a reforestation project was established in 2007. Some day, it will look like the forest seen from this vista.

The trunk of a strangler fig (I think it's Ficus costaricana but don't take my word for it), on the shore of Lake Nicaragua, between Sapoa and Cardenas. Wild fig trees like this one start out as tiny vines on another tree -- as they grow, they use the original tree as scaffolding, resulting in its death. You can see ...

A somewhat crummy gigapan of part of Masaya Volcano, Nicaragua. Parts are off because of shifting amounts of sunlight as clouds went by overhead, parts because I wasn't able to tend to the camera very well. The main crater is to the right. Going to try again later this month...
