Big Ol' Bella by DolAtoR from the GigaPan Sim City 4 – Stitched Image by DolAtoR
One of the last remains of the long history of Puketutu Island, Big Ol' Bella still stands as a reminder that the shoreline wasn't always crowded with skyscrapers as it is nowadays.
Before the Dia Gonale was built, the large, steam-driven ferry was one of the only ways to cross over to the archipelago. In modern times, most of Greater Mangere's commuters use either rail, planes, the modern ferry system or one of the highway bridges to reach the island, so Big Ol' Bella is only used for tourist drives, which are actually fairly cheap.
Why don't you take the trip one day? I advise you all to take the Sundown Tour: Not only do you get to see all the major tourist attractions on Puketutu Island like 'Toi-Kai-Rakau Pier & Marina' from a great perspective, you also get to see something unique on Puketutu Mainland. When the sun sets between the Oceanic Towers in the East, the reflections create an almost psychedelic rainbow in the skyscrapers' street canyons. Be sure to have your cameras at hand and enjoy your trip on the history-laden Ol' Bella!

Eternal Commuters Avenue by DolAtoR from the GigaPan Sim City 4 – Stitched Image by DolAtoR
Some car drivers in the Greater Mangere Area just couldn't get enough of their highway system, so they just drove around in circles on the inner ring between Puketutu Island, Ascot, Mangere and Mangere Airport.
Nothing would make them leave the highway, some townfolks even gossiped that those couldn't be actual drivers, but must be some kind of ghosts! They never ceased driving and never took a rest or stopped to satisfy other basic human needs, so this seemed like a logical conclusion.
The Mayor tried everything he could, but only disconnecting the Endless Avenue from the neighbor cities helped to stop the problem and the chronic traffic congestion on the inner ring. No one had any idea where the "Ghost travelers" went in the end – What happened in the local gossip was pretty obvious: The Puketutu Anomaly had to be the reason!

Country Club "Fusion" by DolAtoR from the GigaPan Sim City 4 – Stitched Image by DolAtoR
In 2034, neighbouring scientists from Somnivorium brought the knowledge of Fusion Power to the Greater Mangere Area. The technological advancement was a huge relief for the Mayor of Puketutu Island, since the rocketing skyscrapers on the shoreline demanded so much power that the streetlights were often dimmed or not working at all.
Thus, Crime exploded on the streets, leading to the infamous Ascot Riots of 2029. The mob, lead by an insatiable hunger for destruction, headed straight for the old-town banking district, which was the Synonym for the Capitalism that the youth of Puketutu Island was fed up with. Shouting slogans like "Simoleons? We're not Peons!", they burned the whole block down to its ashes. Only the sudden and forceful deployment of troops from the nearby Air Force Base in Ascot could stop the rioting mob.
The Snobs were outraged and for a long time, none of them set foot again anywhere near Puketutu Island, which was one of the reasons for the budget crash of 2030. Well, if you ask around in the City Hall's corridors, the Mayor's megalomaniacal bridge building projects may have had its part in the crash as well ...
Anyway, the situation had to change, so when Fusion Power arrived in 2034, Puketutu Island was able to use the former banking district – which lay idle since its total destruction – and build the Fusion Plants there in record time. When it became clear that only two power plants could power the whole city, the Mayor conceived a cunning plan: To lure the Snobs back, he launched a large marketing campaign about the newly built, super-futuristic Country Club that was dubbed "Fusion". Looking like any other Country Club from the outside, it was one of the most technologically advanced buildings of the 21st century and even continues to be as Puketutu Island launches into a new century.
The Mayor's plan worked out splendidly, bringing even more rich people into Puketutu Island than before the riots. But since the Club was a multi-million-dollar adventure and the plants weren't cheap either, I am sure that you can all guess what lead to the Budget Armageddon of 2041, don't you?
