Pinus strobus is Ontario's provincial tree. Older specimens often grow as emergents high above the canopy formed by deciduous trees. Leaves are soft and feathery in bundles of 5. Wood is creamy soft and superb for woodworking. When exposed to wind these can 'flag' beautifully -- think Group of Seven, Georgian Bay.
