Blowing snow? by John Opie from the GigaPan Swiss Panorama II by John Opie
The formation of these kinds of clouds is helped by snow blowing off the tops of high mountains, but aren't actually formed by the snow itself...

Inverted Topography by Ron Schott from the GigaPan St. George Utah from St. George Airport; St. George, UT by S Utah Pano
This hill is capped by basalt (as is the airport hill from which this GigaPan is taken - see dark boulders in the foreground). The basalt was a lava flow that originally flowed down a valley. Since crystallizing the basalt has been more resistant to erosion than the sediments on which they originally flowed. As time goes by, the old river valleys, armored by basalt caps, have weathered more slowly and thus become hills.

Semi struggles up the hill by Carl Berger from the GigaPan San Rafael Swell in infrared by Carl Berger
Each shot was taken at 1/8 second at f2.0. So this blur is a Semi going up the hill into the notch of the swell.
(An R72 filter was used to take the infrared shots. The G1 did not have an infrared blocking filter that appeared on later models.)0 comments
