The Spathe is the large bract (envelopinig leaf) that protects the young infloresence (flower spike). The flower spike has hundreds of tiny, individual flowers. This anatomical structure is present in the arum family (Araceae), that includes Philodendron, Anthurium, Spathiphyllum, Dieffenbachia, Colocasia (taro/kalo), and Alocasia (`ape).
