    Description:

    Now the Bridport Sands have dipped down to sea level but faulting complicates the story as the rocks on the west side of the harbour are actually younger and lie on top of these sands!

    The end of the sea wall has been undermined or outflanked; a problematic feature wherever a hard sea defence meets an eroding cliff.

    The sea wall was completed in 1953 and is now 'showing signs of distress'....... it could fail under storm conditions

    Stonebarrow is the cliff to watch; over the last decade the entire slipped area has been moving and sooner or later a 500 m section of the cliff top will break away!

    The cliffs here have retreated by over 30 metres in the last decade. BEWARE: quicksand can flow across the beach, especially in wet weather.

    Description:

    The end of the snout is uncrushed where it is composed of solid bone. The crushing starts where the skull becomes hollow for nasal cavities.
