Cathedral of Learning, University of Pittsburgh by englishhaus from the GigaPan The Point from Mount Washington by Dror Yaron
On the campus of my alma mater and apparently the second tallest educational buildiing in the world, according to the Pitt Pathfinders campus tour guides. In a story reminiscent of Cold War rivalries, the Russians supposedly have an educational facility erected in Moscow that is larger than this structure by a flagpole.

Homage to William Blake by englishhaus from the GigaPan Cosmic Tree Of Life 2.0, (Digital Painting) by Roger Ferragallo
Thanks to a note from Mr. Ferragallo on one of my previous snapshots, the flying figures in this digital work pay homage to "to the great English artist, poet and mystic, William Blake who forever flies with [him] into space." Those familiar with Blake's illuminations will immediately recognize the resemblance.

Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) by englishhaus from the GigaPan Cosmic Tree Of Life 2.0, (Digital Painting) by Roger Ferragallo
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful formationsin all the cosmos. I never tire of seeing this nebula. Despite frequent study and observation by many astronomers, this nebula still retains a certain mystery that those scientists have yet to discover. Perhaps they should take note from the Romantic poet John Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn,"
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty," - that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.I'd like to think some mysteries are not meant for solving.

These falls are among the fiercest in the eastern US. Brave kayakers get one day each year to go over the falls . . . if they dare.

Warning! by englishhaus from the GigaPan Ohiopyle Falls by englishhaus
These signposts along the river warn anyone foolish enough to come this way to GET OUT NOW! Of course, some people want to go over the falls, and the state allows these insane people to do so once a year only. Contact the park for further information if you're one of those insane people. Good luck!

Another Waterfall by englishhaus from the GigaPan Ohiopyle Falls by englishhaus
Though small, there are many secondary falls like this one in the area, especially in spring (March - May) when seasonal rains are at their peak. The Ohiopyle State Park also boasts other feature falls, all of them stunning in their own way, but none with the force and size of the main falls pictured in this panoramic.

I'm still not sure what this is, but the access road to it, located at the base of the valley in this photo, is guarded and a sign claims that the CDC has a facility on this site. Very interesting . . .

My admittedly meager pile of firewood, for those nights when friends and/or family come to visit, and I break out the firepit for some s'mores, late night conversation, and prolonged staring into the flames.

Development Gone Bad by englishhaus from the GigaPan My Backyard by englishhaus
Two years ago, a development team tried to put in 50 homes in the forest behind our house. My wife and I and the neighbors fought the development team, but sadly, they won. The company then came in, logged much of the forest, sold the lumber, and left. To this day there is no development. While our community "won" in some respect, this road and the stumps up this road are all that's left of our local woods--a sad reminder of our fight
